Breast Augmentation – Individually planned for natural-looking results

For many women, the breasts play an important role in body image, femininity and self-confidence. Genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes or the natural ageing process can influence the size, shape, firmness and symmetry of the breasts. The desire for breast augmentation is therefore highly individual and may have many different reasons.

Breast augmentation can be performed from the age of 18, once breast development is complete. Dr. Münzberg, specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, offers breast augmentation using high-quality silicone gel implants. He exclusively uses implants from the German manufacturer Polytech, which provides a wide range of sizes and shapes. These implants are CE-certified, approved in the EU and meet high quality and safety standards.

Polytech also offers patients a lifetime implant guarantee. A routine implant replacement after 10 years, which was often recommended in the past, is generally no longer necessary without a medical reason.

Breast augmentation with autologous fat is also possible in selected cases. During the personal consultation, Dr. Münzberg explains the differences between breast implants and fat transfer, including the respective advantages, disadvantages and limitations.

Why are experience and consultation so important?

Every body is unique, and every breast operation must therefore be planned individually. Careful consultation and detailed planning are essential in order to achieve a harmonious, natural-looking result that suits the patient’s body proportions.

Before surgery, Dr. Münzberg conducts a detailed personal consultation. During this consultation, he discusses the patient’s wishes, examines the anatomical conditions and explains the available surgical options. Important factors include the existing breast tissue, chest shape, skin quality, possible asymmetries and the desired final result.

Patient wishes are taken seriously, provided they are medically reasonable and achievable. At the same time, Dr. Münzberg also explains the limits of what is possible and recommends alternatives where appropriate. As with any responsible medical treatment, he will advise against surgery if a safe and aesthetically satisfying result cannot realistically be expected.

In addition to medical expertise, experience and a refined sense of aesthetics are essential. The aim is not simply to enlarge the breast, but to create a balanced result that fits naturally into the overall appearance of the body.

Breast Augmentation with implants

In many cases, breast implants are a safe and effective option for increasing breast volume and improving breast shape. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and desired result, different implant shapes and sizes may be considered.

There are round implants as well as anatomical, teardrop-shaped implants, which can create a particularly natural breast contour in suitable cases. Dr. Münzberg uses only certified implants of high quality and selects the implant type individually according to the patient’s body and expectations.

Breast augmentation with autologous fat

Breast augmentation with the patient’s own fat can be an alternative for selected patients. In this procedure, fat is removed from another area of the body by liposuction, processed and then transferred into the breast.

Because only the patient’s own tissue is used, this method is generally very well tolerated. However, it requires a sufficient amount of suitable body fat and usually allows only a moderate increase in breast volume. Whether this procedure is appropriate and promising must be assessed individually during the consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Augmentation

Below, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about breast augmentation. If you cannot find an answer to your question, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Dr. Münzberg recommends and uses only high-quality silicone gel implants manufactured by Polytech. Their safety is confirmed by relevant EU quality seals and CE certificates.

The breast implants used feature approximately 6 to 8 leak-proof shells and are filled with cohesive silicone gel. These modern breast implants consist of highly cross-linked silicone gel, which returns to its original shape even under extreme stress (memory effect). Various older types have been taken off the market (soy oil implants, hydrogel implants, PIP, etc.) because they lost volume over the years. These implants often led to deformed breasts or exhibited shell defects.

Provided no complications arise, silicone implants can remain in place for a lifetime without needing to be replaced. Implant manufacturers offer a lifetime implant warranty. The warranty includes a free implant replacement, as well as coverage of treatment costs if necessary. After the surgical procedure, you will receive an implant ID card and a warranty card from the manufacturer.

Another important factor is the filling of the implants. They should be filled to 100% or more. This significantly reduces the risk of wrinkling and ensures a good shape in any position. Dr. Münzberg will be happy to answer any questions you may have about implants during a detailed consultation. Of course, patients will also be informed about the approximate costs to be expected.

For the further protection of patients, the company Polytech holds product liability insurance. In the event of complications, this insurance covers all costs for retreatment and the implants.

The reasons for breast augmentation vary widely. Women often complain that their breasts are too small and slightly sagging. Breast volume also frequently decreases after pregnancy and breastfeeding. For this reason, many women seek breast augmentation at the clinic of specialist Dr. Münzberg. Many are also bothered by the shape of their breasts, which can also be altered with an implant. Some women only require augmentation on one side, for example, if there is significant asymmetry in breast size. On the opposite side, only a lift is performed to balance the asymmetry, particularly regarding shape.

In some cases, the surgeon must combine breast augmentation with a scar-minimizing breast lift.

During the initial consultation, Dr. Münzberg explains the various surgical approaches. The incision can be made in the inframammary fold, around the areola, horizontally through the nipple, or alternatively in the armpits. For breast augmentation, the implants can be placed above or below the muscle. If there is little glandular tissue and the breasts are small, the surgeon places the implants under the muscle. This way, the breast retains a natural shape, and the “implant edge structures/curves” are not visible.

Experienced surgeons such as Dr. Münzberg consider placing implants above the muscle in thin patients with little subcutaneous fat and little glandular tissue to be medical malpractice. Another advantage of placing the implants under the muscle is that the implants and tissue do not succumb to “gravity.” The breast will not begin to sag even after many years.

Furthermore, during the consultation, specialist Dr. Münzberg presents the implants and explains the surgical steps. In a so-called “fitting” appointment, the doctor determines the implant size and shape together with the patient.

The doctor/surgeon can perform breast augmentation either on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient procedure at his private clinic.

On the day of the surgery, Dr. Münzberg marks the placement and incision lines prior to the breast augmentation and takes photographs for documentation.

During the breast augmentation, the patient is positioned upright after the surgeon has inserted the implants. This ensures symmetry and the shape desired by the patient, and allows the surgeon to make any necessary adjustments.

Dr. Münzberg inserts drains (thin silicone tubes connected to a vacuum bottle) to allow wound fluid to drain. He removes the drains during the first dressing change in the following days. After the surgery, patients must put on elastic bands (so-called Stuttgart braces) and wear them for 5 days. After breast augmentation, the patient should wear a support and compression bra for 8 weeks. The sutures are removed at the clinic after 10 days. Specialist Dr. Münzberg does not recommend dissolvable sutures. These lead to increased and thicker scar formation due to their higher sugar content. After the sutures are removed, Dr. Münzberg recommends treating the scar with a silicone gel to keep it soft and narrow, i.e., barely visible.

Following breast augmentation, the patient remains at the clinic for 6 to 8 hours if the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. The next day, the patient returns for the first dressing change. Another dressing change takes place after 5 days. In addition, a support and compression bra is fitted, which the patient must wear for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. The doctor can remove the stitches after 10 to 12 days. For breast augmentation, follow-up examinations are conducted free of charge after 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and then once a year.

Possible risks associated with this type of breast surgery include capsular contracture (less than 1%), impaired wound healing, bruising, prolonged swelling, pain, redness, and discoloration from hematomas, wide, raised, and visible scarring, the double-bubble phenomenon, permanent asymmetry, implant displacement, thrombosis and embolism, loss of sensation in the nipples and/or breasts.

You are welcome to contact patients who have already undergone surgery with Dr. Münzberg to exchange experiences. You are also welcome to view results at the clinic. Furthermore, we would be happy to send you additional information on this topic free of charge and with no obligation.

Breast Augmentation – we are always here for you!

With the amendments to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products that took effect in October 2012, the ban on comparative “before-and-after” images was somewhat “relaxed” (→ see the ruling of the Higher Regional Court of Celle; Case No. 13 U 160/12). The ban on before-and-after images now applies only to visual depictions that are abusive, repulsive, or misleading regarding changes to the human body resulting from diseases or injuries. Due to this rather broadly interpretable wording (when is a visual representation abusive, repulsive, or misleading?), specialist Dr. Münzberg continues to refrain from using before-and-after images of breast augmentation on his website. However, you can view images of the successful outcomes of breast augmentation in person at the clinic’s photo archive.

With regard to the disclosure of prices/costs for a surgical procedure, Dr. Münzberg’s practice adheres to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products, which prohibits misleading advertising. Under this legislation, it could appear as though the outcome of a treatment is for sale and that success is guaranteed. For this reason, no costs for breast augmentation are listed on the website.

However, you can find out the prices directly by email or by calling us.

If there is a medical indication, the costs will be covered by your health insurance. For this, written confirmation from your health insurance provider is required.
